General Counsel

Hey! We’re Poki! We’re a tech scale-up on a mission to create the ultimate online playground. Every month, more than 100 million players come to Poki to discover and play games created by our community of 500+ game developer teams.
“Play is how we learn” is our core value, and our team brings something unique to the table. We are looking for an experienced General Counsel to strengthen the global compliance of our company-wide operations and to provide strategic advice across all legal matters.
What this job is about:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead Poki’s legal function and have a significant impact across all aspects of our business.
As our General Counsel, you will be connected to all stakeholders of our platform: game developers, advertisers, players, and employees. Your responsibilities will cover a broad spectrum of legal areas, including commercial contracting, privacy and compliance, risk management, intellectual property, and employment law.
The work will be ever-evolving and exciting. You will solve complex legal issues, act as a sparring partner for leadership, and collaborate closely with our commercial and product teams. You will also coordinate and oversee the work of our specialised external law firms.
Your challenge as a General Counsel:
- 🔐 Oversee the privacy and global compliance of our platform. Stay on top of regulatory changes and relevant case law. Map risks, trade-offs, and potential improvements. Act as the central point of contact for our boutique law firm specialised in privacy and IT-contracting, and coordinate their work.
- ⚖️ Contribute to the sustainability and future-proofing of Poki by building trust with our players, developer community, and advertising partners. Represent Poki externally on privacy and compliance matters when needed, and help explain and defend trade-offs.
- ⚙️ Take responsibility for drafting, negotiating, and managing critical commercial contracts. As we scale our developer platform, advise on the legal implications of content, Terms of Service, and enforcement. Help design scalable processes and automation for self-service publishing.
- ♟️ Provide expert, strategic legal advice to leadership across a wide range of topics. Work with our Data Protection Officer, mentor Legal Counsel, and take a hands-on approach when needed. Improve processes around contracting, IP protection, and HR-related legal requirements.
You:
- 8-10 years of experience (typical sweet spot), with a broader range of 5-12 years considered.
- Training at a high-quality law firm (Zuidas or similar), ideally 4+ years, and the ability to be hands-on.
- Experience in commercial law practice or a civil law background, with affinity for privacy law.
- In-house experience (role or secondment) and strong understanding of business context.
- Comfortable with digital products and platform business models.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with pragmatic judgment. You can balance legal risk and business opportunity.
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.
